Write to Rockstar Energy Drink, and Ask Them to Clarify Their Position on LGBT Rights
Over at the Bilerico Project, we have a guest post up today about the ties between conservative shock jock Michael Savage, and Rockstar Energy Drink. As we've noted, Savage is the co-founder of the beverage, and his son (Russ Weiner) is currently the CEO. And both of them have a string of anti-LGBT comments that make Fred Phelps look like Miss Manners.
And now we'd like you to write the company, and ask them to explain whether or not they feel the same way about LGBT rights and autism as their founder does.
Here's a few of Michael Savage's deplorable remarks:
- "You want me to tell you what makes me sick? When I see two puffy white males kissing each other, I want to puke. When I see two women kissing each other, on the lips, as lovers, I want to vomit."
- "[Sodomites] should only get AIDS and die..."
- "You know what autism is? I'll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is."
- "...children's minds are being raped by the homosexual mafia, that's my position. They're raping our children's minds."
Why support a beverage company that rewards the pockets of a man who says vile things like those listed above? Please, consider signing the petition to Rockstar's CEO Russ Weiner, asking him whether or not the energy drink agrees with these comments, or disavows them.

Dear Mr. Weiner,
My husband is a conservative and has listened to Michael Savage's radio programs in the past. I myself am quite uncomfortable with the program. However, I am all for freedom of speech and understand there is no "freedom from being offended." Anyone is free to say whatever they wish and that is what made this the country it is today.
What I do have issue with is the promotion of superiority of rights for one group of people over another. If equal rights and civil rights are also what our great country is trying to accomplish, allowing mixed messages to be promoted by a "political" figure is unacceptable. Many do consider Michael Savage as a voice -- be it a small one -- for the Conservative branch.
I would encourage you and your Company [Rockstar] to make a public statement as to where you stand on these matters. I understand that it may be a family issue as well as a personal one. Please understand that political issues and personal issues can be seperated from each other. You may not agree with what someone does or lives, but it should not deny them equal rights or equal standing in society. No one knows what anyone else does behind closed doors, nor is it the public's business so long as laws are not violated.
Sincerely,
S. Lian
