Family Research Council
"Family Research Council believes that homosexual conduct is harmful to the persons who engage in it and to society at large, and can never be affirmed. It is by definition unnatural, and as such is associated with negative physical and psychological health effects. "
In the late 1980s, FRC, then headed by Gay Bauer, merged with Focus on the Family. They split up due to tax exemption issues in 1992.
FRC relies heavily on the junk science of Paul Cameron (Family Research institute). FRC has claimed that that gay people view "pedophiles as the ‘prophets’ of a new sexual order." FRC also claims that children in gay households are at greater risk of parental rape. They have also attempted to sue school districts that offer diversity programs of contributing to the delinquency of minors. FRC has also attacked corporations with non-discriminatory policies. In one famous instance, they published a paper regarding American Airlines asking "What are you going to develop next? A pedophilia market?"
FRC’s current bigot in chief is Tim Dailey, Senior Fellow, Center for Marriage and Family Studies. Dailey is the author of "Dark Obsession: The Tragedy and Threat of the Homosexual lifestyle." Dailey’s diatribes can be summed up as "homosexuals are evil." "Those who hold to traditional views about marriage and human sexuality are increasingly being targeted by homosexual activists and their supporters." in other words, paint the oppressed as the oppressors. This was the tactic of the Third Reich to demonize Jews.
FRC has claimed that the real victim of the Matthew Shepard murder was not Matthew. Rather, it is Cindy Dixon. the mother of one of his murderers.
" … homosexual conduct is not comparable to other characteristics usually protected by civil rights laws ("race, color, religion, sex, or national origin"). Protection against private "discrimination" has historically been offered only for characteristics that are inborn, involuntary, immutable, innocuous, and/or in the Constitution-yet none of these describe homosexual behavior."
Focus on the Family
James Dobson founded FoF in 1977. Dobson is a former child development professor. In addition to homophobic pursuits, Dobson is known as an enthusiastic child (call-it-abuse) spanking advocate. FoF absolutely detests laws that prohibit parents from beating the hell out of their kids to keep them in line. Glenn T. Stanton seems to be the bigot-in-chief these days. He is "Director of Social Research and Cultural Affairs and Senior Analyst for Marriage and Sexuality at Focus on the Family." Does that actually fit on his business card?
FoF now has approximately 1,500 employees to help spread the word about the evils of "perversion" and the "gay lifestyle." Anyone who disagrees with their world view is promptly labeled a militant homosexual activist. There are no gays or lesbians in Dobson-world - just sick homosexuals, all of who are "militant" and all of who share some common "agenda." About 7,500 radio stations broadcast Dobson’ message about the militant homosexual agenda (whatever the hell that is) to an estimated 200,000,000 people. Thus Dobson is just not a garden variety crackpot; He is a dangerous crackpot with a message of hate cloaked in religious respectability. On the web, they deliver their message on CitizenLink.com - a faux news site.
Among the gems on the website is this screed explaining sexual orientation:
It is more likely to be related to one or more of the following: (1) confusion of role models seen in parents, including, but not limited to, a dominant mother and a weak or absent father; (2) serious family dysfunction that wounds and damages the child; (3) early sexual abuse; (4) the influence of an older homosexual during a critical period of adolescence; (5) conscious choice and cultivation; and/or (6) homosexual experimentation, such as mutual masturbatory activity, by boys in early adolescence.
Of course, the above is heavily blended with a good dose of Christian teachings and scripture. Dobson always says that he "loves homosexuals." Perhaps we could all benefit if he adored us a bit less.
Focus on the Family also likes to forcast the consequences of same-sex marriage in terms that most people would describe as racial bigotry:
Marital decline has occurred in many other cultures, but there is an example much closer to home. This is precisely what is happening in America’s inner cities, where the family has largely disintegrated. More than 70 percent of all black children are born out of wedlock today and millions more are aborted. Alcoholism, drug abuse, violence and sexually transmitted disease are rampant. Social chaos reigns."
FoF frames all civil rights and equal protection issues as "homosexual special rights." Dobson makes the claim that funding for heart research and other diseases has been limited because of vast sums spent on AIDS research. This the result - you already know this part - of the militant homosexual activists.
Jim goes a bit over the top from time to time. Here is a classic:
Communities do not let prostitutes, pedophiles, voyeurs, adulterers and those who sexually prefer animals to publicly celebrate their lifestyle, so why should homosexuals get such privileges?
Focus on the Family is particularly obsessed with same-sex marriage. Focus on the-Family tells us:
Under such a definition, one man and six women could be regarded as a legal entity, reintroducing the debate over polygamy. We thought we settled that issue in the last century.
and;
There is good reason, then, to defend the narrow legal definition of the family as understood over the centuries. After all, the family as I have characterized it is not merely human in origin. It is God’s marvelous creation. And He has not included casual social relationships — even the most loving ones — within that bond of kinship. Nor should we.
In other words, FoF is very capable of portraying themselves and their fellow Christians as victims in contrast to the targets of their hate. They do so in comfort on a 50 acre campus in Colorado Springs.
"Researchers at Focus on the Family (FOF) and the Family Research Council (FRC) have put together several research reports … " concerning same-sex marriage.
- None of this so-called "research" is either published or peer reviewed.
- Most of it relies heavily on the work of the discredited Paul Cameron.
- None of this would stand up to the scientific scrutiny of a high school chemistry experiment.
- The material is manufactured to conform to a cultural and scriptural pre-determined outcome.
- The logic is tortured.
Homosexual relationships are not marriage. That is, they simply do not fit the minimum necessary condition for a marriage to exist–namely, the union of a man and a woman.
In other words, marriage must be defined as the union of a man and a woman because anything else is not the union of a man and a woman. Huh?
Homosexual relationships are harmful. Not only do they not provide the same benefits to society as heterosexual marriages, but their consequences are far more negative than positive.
Sounds authoritative but actually says nothing. It’s just another way to restate hate and bigotry.
