Take Action: VT Gov. Douglas to Veto Gay Marriage Bill!
The Governor is using the budget deficit as a lame excuse to deny marriage equality to his gay constituents. He is also suggesting that legislators have been wasting their time.

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas says he will veto a gay marriage bill if it passes the Legislature.
Douglas, a Republican, had said previously he was against same-sex marriage and that lawmakers shouldn't have spent their time on it this session, given the economy and the state's multi-million dollars budget deficits.
A bill that would replace the state's first-in-the-nation civil unions law with one that allows gay and lesbian couples to marry passed the state Senate on Tuesday. The House is now considering similar legislation.
Please Inform Governor Douglas that Civil Rights Legislation for his Gay Citizens is not a Waste of Time:

Follow-up with a telephone call to 802 828-3333. I want to emphasize that regular mail is far more persuasive than using the contact for on the Governor's website.

Douglas is conforming to the Republican ideology. He should be ashamed of himself. The unusual step of announcing a veto in advance of a bill's passage is intended to send a message to House Republicans. This is really outrageous!
The people of Vermont entrusted Governor Douglas to represent their best interests, and yet he brushes off the topic of same-sex marriage as a "distraction"? Shame on him.
