Breaking: NH Senate Approves Gay Marriage

A bill legalizing same-sex marriage in New Hampshire passed the Senate today by  a vote of 13 to 11. The bill was amended to incorporate protections similar to the legislation that was recently enacted in Vermont. The bill specifically states that clergy are under no obligation to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies. While Governor John Lynch has stated that he thinks that marriage should be between a man and a woman, he has not indicated that he will veto this bill. He has also stated in the past that he believes that the state's civil unions provide gays with adequate protections and privileges.
