Perhaps Tim Wildmon Could Fall Into a Large Gap
The American Family Association has long been the dependable home to silly boycotts. The majority of these are associated with companies that are gay friendly. Most of America's largest companies now provide partnership benefits. Defense contractor Boeing, for example, provides insurance that pays for transgender surgery. It has become increasingly difficult for AFA to target an organization. In the last HRC report, 305 companies had a perfect 100 score. To be consistent if, say, they were to boycott eBay for gay friendly policies, AFA would have to give up on adhesive tape (3M), most airlines, lawyers, insurance companies and banks. They would have to surrender their Amex and Master cards. It would be pretty hard not to buy from tolerant organizations.
Now, with Don Wildmon's idiot son, Tim, in charge and given that we are approaching the holiday season, AFA has decided to soldier in God's army against The War on Christmas. This "war" is a manufactured controversy that is a dependable fundamentalist attention getter.
This week, AFA announced a two-month boycott of Gap stores and the company’s other store brands, Old Navy and Banana Republic. The boycott is based on the store’s refusal to use the term “Christmas” in its advertising campaigns during the last few years. AFA encourages concerned consumers to boycott all three of the clothing retail chains.
The boycott is part of our ongoing campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to put Christ back in Christmas,” reports AFA President Tim Wildmon. He says Gap has refused to use the word “Christmas,” despite tens of thousands of consumer requests for the company to recognize the holiday by name.
