Breaking: Hate Crimes Bill Passes Senate!
[UPDATE] A cloture vote just passed by 63 to 28. By prior consent that passes the bill. The bill has already passed the House. Further details Friday AM. The bill extends federal hate crimes laws to sexual orientation and sexual identity. In essence it provides government assistance to local law enforcement and creates sentencing enhancements for bias crimes.

The bill also extends protections to disabled people as well. It's a sad comment about our society that disabled people need to be protected from hate crimes, but unfortunately its true.
